Director of Nihon Clinic San Diego
Ildong Kim, M.D., FAAP
What is primary care?
In Japan, if your nose is clogged, you go directly to the otolaryngology department, and if your leg is injured, you go to orthopedics. In the United States, it is common to first see a family doctor who provides primary care to you and your family.
Primary care includes general medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology. Doctors who provide primary care are also called PCPs (primary care physicians). PCPs have extensive training in internal medicine and pediatrics, and when they determine that their patient needs a medical examination or treatment by a specialist, they refer them to the appropriate specialist.
At Nihon Clinic San Diego, we provide primary care for areas such as internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, gynecology, orthopedics, dermatology, otolaryngology, and STDs.

About Nihon Clinic San Diego
Since its inception in Chicago in 1986, Nihon Clinic has expanded its medical services throughout the United States, forming a partnership with Scripps Clinic in 1999 in San Diego and then becoming independent as the Nihon Clinic San Diego Institute in 2002 at its previous location. San Diego’s Nihon Clinic is a very welcoming clinic run by Dr. Kim, several nurses, and reception staff. All of the staff are previously from Japan so you can receive Japanese-style medical services in a great environment.
Being located in a convenient area like Kearney Mesa, where Japanese markets such as Nijiya and Mitsuwa are gathered, we will continue to strive to provide the best medical care to not only the Japanese people living in San Diego but everyone who walks through our doors.
